New Razer mouse boasts an 8,000Hz polling rate

Razer’s latest gaming mouse, the Viper 8KHz, will ping your PC 8,000 times per second in an effort to deliver a truly lag-free experience.

Is this a gimmick, or something that will make a real difference?

Razer’s patented HyperPolling Technology is what enables this level of control precision. At 8,000Hz, the Razer Viper 8KHz surpasses the response frequency of an average gaming mouse by a factor of eight. Razer claims this will translate to an eightfold improvement in terms of input delay, down to one-eighth of a millisecond (0.125ms). Granted, that might not make a huge difference at the Silver IV tier of CS: GO. But that shouldn’t matter, since the Viper 8KHz is targeted at the highest echelons of competitive gaming where even the smallest advantages can mean the difference between victory and defeat.

U.S. consumers can already purchase the Razer Viper 8KHz – either directly from the company or one of its authorized resellers. The cutting-edge gaming mouse is priced at $79.99. You’ll be able to fine-tune its performance and RGB profiles via the Razer Synapse 3 app, as is the case with every other contemporary Razer peripheral. Assuming this product launch is a success, the Viper 8KHz likely won’t be the last mouse with HyperPolling support that Razer releases.
